Courses Offered and Eligibility

Minimum requirement for joining an airline as a pilot is acquisition of a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). For so doing each aspiring pilot has to first obtain a Student Pilot’s License and variety of other licenses along the way. A brief account of requirements for each license are given in succeeding paragraphs. 
Apart from the qualifications & requirements listed for each type of license listed below, there may be other formalities such as police verification, educational qualification verification, medical requirements, English language proficiency etc. which can either be seen at the DGCA website or through a personal contact with PAC.

Must for Student Pilot Licence (SPL)

Qualification & requirements:

  • The applicant shall not be less than 16 years of age on date of application. The applicant shall have passed class X or its equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • The applicant shall produce on a prescribed perfroma a certificate of medical fitness from a DGCA approved medical examiner.
  • The applicant shall pass the oral examination in Air Regulations, Air Navigation, Aviation meteorology, Aircraft and Engines as per the syllabus prescribed by the DGCA.
  • Police verification certificate of the student pilot shall be obtained from concerned State Police Authority before the commencement of the flying training.

Must for Private Pilot Licence (PPL)

Qualification & requirements:

  • The applicant shall not be less than 17 years of age on the date of application.
  • The applicant shall have passed class X or its equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • The applicant shall produce on a medical fitness certificate of Class II medical from a DGCA approved medical examiner.
  • The applicant shall pass written examination in Air Regulations, Air Navigations, Aviation meteorology and Aircraft and Engines as per the syllabus prescribed by the DGCA.
  • The applicant shall produce evidence of having satisfactorily completed, as a pilot of an Aeroplane not less than 40 hours of flight time out of which at least 20 hours should be solo flight time as per DGCA prescribed flying syllabus.
  • Privileges: Subject to the validity of endorsements and rating in the licence and compliance with the relevant provisions of Rules 39B & 42, the privileges of the holder of a PPL shall be subject to the Act, but not for remuneration, as pilot in command or as co-pilot of any aeroplane which is entered in the Aircraft rating of his licence and carry passengers therein.

Must Commercial Pilot Licene (CPL)

Qualification & requirements:

  • The applicant shall not be less than 18 years of age on the date of application.
  • The applicant shall have passed class 10+2(Non Medical) or its equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized board/University.
  • A certificate of Class-I medical fitness from DGCA approved medical authority. The applicant shall pass written examination in Air Regulations, Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Aircraft and Engines as conducted by the DGCA and RTR (A) as per the syllabus and requirements prescribed by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India.
  • The applicant shall produce evidence of having satisfactorily completed, as a pilot of an Aeroplane on the date of application, not less than 200 hours of flight time out of which at least 100 hours flight time as pilot in Command. Simulator training for 10 hours also required.
  • Passing written/oral examination and other relevant skill/competence tests shall be responsibility of the candidate.

Multi Engine Rating, other Training and Rating for various check

  • Multi Engine Rating - Students enrolling in this course will hold a DGCA Commercial Pilot Licence endorsed with multi engine and an Instrument Rating Airplane.
